SNEAK
PREVIEW SCREENING Forced to give up his dreams of art school in order to take care of his family, Zach (Trevor Wright) has become accustomed to a life where he neglects his own needs in favor of taking care of others. He spends his time working a dead-end job at a diner, and skates the urban streets of San Pedro stenciling his signature "crane" wherever he can find vacant wall space. At home he takes care of his nephew, Cody (Jackson Wurth), as his older sister, Jeanne (Tina Holmes), has clearly shown that her priorities lie elsewhere. Perhaps conveniently, with all his responsibilities, he barely has time to see his long term on-again, off-again girlfriend, Tori (Katie Walder). When his best friend's older brother, Shaun (Brad Rowe), returns home to cure a case of writer's block, Shaun and Zach begin hanging out. Zach sees in Shaun someone who has truly claimed his own life and embraced his talent. Zach is both intimidated and surprisingly attracted to him. The two quickly transition from casual surf buddies into a true, intimate relationship. Shaun presses Zach to take control of his life, and to take ownership of his artwork. He also develops a strong bond with Cody, and Zach happily notices the positive effect Shaun's attention has on him. As time progresses, however, a host of new issues come up. Zach struggles with his identity, his family, and friends, while trying to understand the new emotions Shaun has brought into his life. When the cat is let out of the bag, Jeanne threatens to take Cody away. Wanting nothing but the best for him, Zach is forced to decide between his pattern of always putting others' desires first or fighting for what is really most important and appropriate for both his and Cody's future Member Tickets | Non Member Tickets Wednesday,

OPENING NIGHT GALA
![]() Fri, April, 25th @ 7:30pm Gusman Center for the Performing Arts Breakfast with Scot Directed by Laurie Lynd Canada, 98min, 2007, 35mm East Coast Premiere Breakfast with Scot is a charming, funny and sweet tale of love, family, and embracing who you are.
Rugged and handsome Eric McNally is a former star hockey player with the Toronto Maple Leafs. After an injury forced him to retire, the sexy athlete started a second career, as a successful television sportscaster and things seem to be going pretty well.
Though very much in the closet, Eric shares his life and home with partner Sam, a corporate attorney. Their domestic tranquility is unexpectedly turned upside down when the two learn that Sam's deadbeat globe-trotting brother Billy has been left custody of his ex-girlfriends son and until Billy can be found the two men will have to act as temporary dads to 11 year-old Scot; a fact that doesn't make Eric happy at all.
Decorated with the scent of pink gardenia and charm bracelets, musical theater loving Scot (yes, that's Scot with one 't') is the complete antithesis to Eric's butch masculinity. With a love of all things Christmas and a pension for fashion, Scot's unabashed flamboyance proves to be much more than Eric can handle, and he enthusiastically tries to toughen him up by enrolling him in a junior hockey league and agreeing to be it's assistant coach.
When Scot's first game ends disastrously, Eric is forced to realize that his efforts are turning Scot from a loving, sensitive kid to a bully-in-the making. Ultimately Eric comprehends that the only problem lays in his own insecurities, and that there is a lot to learn from a boy who dares to be himself.
With a full endorsement by the NHL, making this the first LGBT film to be supported by a major sports league; "Breakfast with Scot" is full of much more than hockey pucks and holiday carols; it's full of heart. What could be more fun than celebrating Christmas in Miami in April!
Director Laurie Lynd and producer Paul Brown will attend to discuss the film with the audience. |
