Part love story, part harrowing history
lesson, this heart-wrenching drama looks at the stark impact of Spanish
dictator Franco’s “social danger” laws, which persecuted gays and lesbians
well into the 1970s. In 1972, teachers Pilar and Elvira meet and form a
close friendship that soon becomes much more. When Pilar’s mother realizes
the nature of their relationship, she sends her to an asylum and authorizes
electroshock therapy in an attempt to cure her “dangerous perversions.”
