Director's Bio - Debra Wilson
Debra Wilson is an award-winning filmmaker, whose most recent work Jumpin' the Broom: The New Covenant will premier in February on cable. In 2003, Wilson's Butch Mystique opened to critical acclaim at the San Francisco International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival. Her 30-minute film about butch identified African American women currently airs on MTV Logo and Showtime. She also won the 2003 San Francisco International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival and the Showtime Black Filmmaker's Showcase Award.
A native of California, Wilson has worked in the film industry for 15 years in a variety of roles, including Talent Coordinator for news and entertainment where she recruited sports, weather and on-air personalities for CBS News, FOX News and Disney as well as local affiliates.
Debra earned a B.A. degree in Television Film Production at Cal-State University Northridge. She is president of Moyo Entertainment, an Oakland-based production and distribution company. She is the cofounder and Director of Programming for the annual Oakland International Black Gay & Lesbian Film Festival.
